Fiber Optics can be purchased by the spool or by the foot and come in different sizes. Larger diameter fibers will produce brighter stars. You can use different size diameters together to recreate a more realistic star field. For my project, I used three different diameters, .25mm, .50mm, and .75mm. Depending on your project size, spools are usually the most economical way to go but this means you'll have to spend a little bit more time cutting and measuring each fiber to length. At close to 1100 stars with ceiling distances ranging from 20 to 30 feet, that's going to be a lot of fiber - but these 3 spools will be more than enough to cover my entire project.
